SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WHO QUALIFY
LEVEL I - DEVELOPING IMAGINATION
Based on 3 months/ 2 classes per week/ 1.5 hrs each
Objectives:
At the end of this level students will be able to show short 'etudes' (short character stories through movement) using mime theatre and dance techniques and work with imaginary objects.
Learning:
--- Panto-rhythmica - exercises combining elements of creative mime theatre movements, improvisation, dance, and 'laughing yoga' technique, which leads to cardio-muscular toning and freedom of self expression.
--- Basics and Techniques of Theatrical Mime
--- Basics of work with imaginary objects
Target:
Strengthening the most valuable instrument - human imagination; Developing a creative process that will stay with a person throughout their lifetime.
Selection to Level II:
Teens who master Level I will go to level II classes - others will go to Level I PLUS where they will be coached to develop mastery to be advanced to Level II. In Level I PLUS they will receive special attention and direction needed.
LEVEL II - DEVELOPING SELF EXPRESSION
Based on 3 months/ 2 classes per week 1.5 hrs each
Objectives:
Students will express themselves through body language in 'etudes' (short character stories through movement). Each student will be able to create his/her own story and costume.
Learning:
--- Panto-rhythmica exercises expanded
--- Various theatrical mime styles (Classics, European, Asians)
--- Mastering of actors skills and improvisation
--- Learning mime techniques level II
Target:
Developing self-asurance and individuality. Since every person expresses differently, Level II target is to help to choose an individual program for each student as well as for the group.
LEVEL III - PREPARATION FOR THE SHOW & THE SHOW
Based on 3 months/ 2 classes per week 1.5 hrs each
Objectives:
Students selected to this level will become part of a most exciting process. They will start rehearsing for a professional stage performance and have the chance to become part of a team performing with Broadway Star dancers Miriam Larici & Leonardo Barrionuevo. Our students will tell a story expressed through integration of theatrical mime and dance. At this stage they will be able to give their ideas, and the best of these will be implemented in the show. The show will take place in the theatres of Los Angeles.
Learning:
--- Be a part of a team of professional dancers
--- Create stories for the show using theatrical mime techniques, 'etudes' and dance
Target:
Developing stage experience. Participation in the Show!!! Be a Star!!!
Note: The advancement to each level of the program and the selection process for the show is based on students' theatrical as well as scholastic/academic achievement.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
This program is created by Dance Into Unity, Inc. for youth ages 12-19 to open opportunities for teens to perform in dance productions in the theatres of LA with internationally recognized artists. Dance Into Unity, Inc. is the producer of Broadway-cast dance productions. Class size is limited to 20 teens.
Res. $82/Non-res. $90. Scholarships offered for those who qualify.
“Street to Stage” is based on learning through inspiration and geared to stimulate excellence in education instilling the sense of accomplishment and success which youth will take with them for the rest of their lives.
