"Tango Adamor" Stage Production
Raising Autism Awareness
Broadway Stars to Perform the Argentine Tango in Premiere Benefit Event
For those of us living with autism, everyday life is a challenge. And for those of us living with a loved one who is autistic, life can be just as challenging. It is a world shared but a life that is worlds apart.
On November 22-23, 2008 in Los Angeles, Dance Into Unity will present the premiere stage production, Tango Adamor, featuring world-renowned Broadway Stars. Choreography of the show is the artistic vision of Miriam Larici, a world-famous tango dancer, choreographer, and star of the original Broadway hit Forever Tango.
The show will help to raise public awareness about autism, a neurological communication disorder that impairs social interaction and is rising at an alarming rate. All net proceeds from the show will go to benefit autism programs.
Tango Adamor will feature such world-famous tango performers as Miriam Larici, Natalia Hills, Gabriel Misse, Silvia Gryntz, Guillermo Salvat, and Guillermo & Enrique Di Fazio. The dancers will be accompanied by Seth Asarnows Tango Quintet.
The show will take place on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the Wilshire Theatre Beverly Hills (8440 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills CA) at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM . It will also take place on Sunday, November 23, 2008 at the Alex Theatre, Glendale (216 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale CA), at 7:00 PM. Tickets for the performances range from $30 to $110. TWO TO TANGO ADAMOR - 12/04/08 - REVIEW
by Kelly Kreuzberger,
University Times, CoolStateLA.com
Saturday November 22nd at the Wilshire theater in Beverly Hills was a night of raw seduction, beauty, dignity, unity, passion, envy, fear and jealousy, as eight tango dancers took the stage throwing everything they had to a hungry audience. The emotions they portrayed were the same ones we sometimes shy away from, yet, the dancers of Tango Adamor splashed them across the hard wooden floor. Roars from the crowd demanding more, more, more erupted into the air.
Tango Adamor was on fire, led by a six-piece band complete with two bandoneons, (a piano accordion) violin, piano, guitar and bass that provided the sonic backdrop to exotic yet familiar Argentine rhythms.
Tango Adamor was conceived by Svetlana David, producer and writer, and Elena Alexandra, executive producer, writer and director. We started a journey into the psychology field, said Alexandra. The two had also studied symbolism and were inspired by a fifteen year boy Adam, who was diagnosed with autism.
We found a way to mix our message with the arts, said Alexandra.
The performance began with thunderous cheers for the work of two brothers Guillermo and Enrique De Fazio. It was easy to see why theyre known as Los Hermanos Macana, Macana meaning a witty guy, one whos got it. They performed witty tango interpretations, mixing playful and comical techniques. It was said that as children they were forced to dance with one another and found they liked it. [A man dancing with one another was not so unheard of at the beginning of the last century, due to a lack of women who immigrated to Argentina.] Each move was supremely calculated with ferocious movement of hands, feet, shoulders and torsos. Los Hermanos Macana provided welcome humor to an almost too serious show.
The ladies of Tango Adamor were stunning and sexy, dancing as though they owned the stage, daring anyone to challenge them. With red pouty lips, jet black hair slicked back to perfection, and flowing gowns slit up to their thigh, they teased audience to leer more. They lured us in like a cat setting a trap for its prey, their bodies telling us they were merely there to dance and wanted nothing more to do with us. Here were women who would not, could not, will not, be pleased. As they were flipped into the air, rolled behind their partners back and lightly placed back on the ground, they barely batted a thickly painted eyelash. Not to mention they did this all in four-inch heels.
The Watashi was one of the last dances and was performed by Leonardo Barrionuevo and Miriam Larici, the ones responsible for choreographing the group dances. They did an understated yet tasteful Argentine tango. Barrionuevo swung Larici around his body as though she were nothing more than a piece of rope. The best move by far was Barrionuevo tossing Larici across stage on her knees, her face contorting to that of a wild animal as her hands were tearing and clawing their way across the floor.
Tango Adamor is about connecting a community, people coming together, said David. Within every disease there is a cure. [Autism] is disconnection. Disconnect is everywhere, war, envy, fights, jealously, the decay of the human soul. At the heart of Argentine tango lies the desire of connection.
And in the end this is what we all truly desire.
TANGO ADAMOR AT THE ALEX THEATER GLENDALE - 11/23/08 - REVIEW
-- by Dena Burroughs, Vida Salsera,

A harmony of color, music, and dance filled the stage of the Alex Theater, in Glendale, on November 23 with the performance of Tango Adamor. With female dancers of serious faces, wearing three-inch-heels and flirtatious dresses, and Argentine males of bold moves, like tigers stepping wide and precisely, the evening was a feast to the audiences senses.
The perfect hairdos of the female dancers, their flawless make-up, and gorgeous figures, and the decisive movements of handsome men of stoic semblances, all combined to project tangos powerful emotion. With their intricate steps and passionate demeanor, the twelve Tango Adamor dancers moved effusively on stage, sometimes together, most often in pairs made up of men who led their partners from smooth splits on the floor to almost violent lifts over+head.
Then, at times, tango went girl-less. As when audiences favorites, brothers Enrique De Fazio and Guillermo De Fazio, also known as Los Hermanos Macana, honored their name (macana means a witty guy) by dancing together a combination of precision, rhythm, and humor that thoroughly entertained and provoked the cheering of the crowd.
Giving the performers music to dance to was musical director Seth Arsanow, who played the bandoneon (a small, square accordion) next to other four musicians. Singer Lizzie Furlong, from Dallas, TX, twice joined the ensemble to perform tango classics, like Carlos Gardels El dia que me quieras.
Besides its artistic value, Tango Adamors tours intention is worth of attention. Writers Svetlana David and Elena Alexandra, motivated by a child suffering from Autism, Adam, (whose name, combined with amor [love] created the title Adamor) worked on this project wanting to improve Autism awareness and to provide financial support to Dance Into Unity, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing dance, music and arts programs to underserved youth populations, with a special focus on the autism disorder.

In 2006 Dance Into Unity joined with the charity organization "Adam's Fund for Autism" to put together an event to raise autism awareness.
"El Corazon del Tango" was our first Argentine Tango dance production which took place November 18-19, 2006 at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles. Over 2,000 learned about autism by attending the inspirational event.
We also learned a great deal about autism and as a result came up with "Adam's Ranch" initiative, a place for individuals with autism to grow and reach their highest potentials. Our vision of Adam's Ranch was first introduced at this event.
In this video, famous Argentine Tango couple Paola Jean Jean and Nicolas Cobos are dancing Tanguera in "El Corazon del Tango" on November 18, 2006. Narration by Elena Alexandra.

El Corazon Del Tango
Dance into Unity Through the Heart of Tango
At the Heart of Argentine Tango lies the longing for a connection with another human being
Autism is one of the most painful reflections of the isolation of a human being in our society
LOS ANGELES, CA.On the evenings of November 18th and 19th Dance Into Unity will be presenting two nights of authentic Argentine tango in the premiere performance of EL CORAZON DEL TANGO at the Wilshire Ebell Theater. Broadway stars and choreographers from around the world are taking part in this event that will benefit a local charity, ADAMS FUND FOR AUTISM. www.adamsfund.org.
The popularity of the Argentine Tango has been growing steadily for many years and the producers are expecting that following this premiere event, the show will be taken on the road across the United States and then on tour throughout the world. The proceeds from all performances will continue to provide much needed financial support for this community-based charity that provides educational, emotional and financial assistance for families and family members coping with autism.
This production will feature world renowned Broadway stars performing the Argentine Tango to the
accompaniment of a host of highly acclaimed musical artists arriving from Argentina just for this event.
The goal for these evenings is to provide two spectacular nights of authentic Argentine Tango while raising funds for a non-profit organization, ADAM'S FUND FOR AUTISM. The promotion of this event will serve to enlighten the public about autism, a developmental disorder that is affecting a growing number of members of our community.
Tickets for these performances range from $35.00 to $55.00 and may be purchased at the theater box office4401 West 8th Street, Los Angeles or on-line at www.danceintounity.org. More complete details of this event and the background of the international celebrities participating these two
